Jan Godfrey, We are probably so not related; however I am very curious about Adam "Poole" Vandiver. Have just been told of a Cherokee Indian Princess that is suppose to have been saved from the trail of tears by marrying a German immigrant prospector who was my G-G-G Grandfather. His name was Poole. As with some of my other ancestors that dropped part of their name(shortened it), could this be the case for him. I am just starting my search for my heritage and am told also that I have Cherokee bloodline from several ancestors. How do I get started? Mail me please if you can help. Thank you, decendant of ?--Little Moon

I, too, have seen Grey Eagle's chair and am saddened by the removal from the school. I have my suspicions about where it is, but can confirm nothing. I am also, supposedly, the G-G-G-G-G-Great neice of Grey Eagle, his sister being married to my Great (7 times) Grandfather, Adam Poole Vandiver. But, I can't find any evidence that there ever was a Chief Grey Eagle. If anyone has proof, I would love to share!

Sincerely,

Jan Godfrey

I am a great-great grandson of Chief Grey Eagle that you spoke about
in one of your articles. I have visited the "chair" but did not sit on it.
It has since been moved to another location. I love the area up there
in N. Ga. and visit as often as possible. I am also on the Tribal Council
of the United Cherokee Ani-yun-wiya nation. Regards, Rowland Matthews

One more comment. Chief Grey Eagle's rough granite throne, formally on loan/display on the campus of Tallulah Falls School, has been removed. The owner has relocated it to his private property. I, too, have sat and pondered in his chair and feel a loss at its removal.

I live in the area of Chenocetah Mountain and really enjoyed reading about the history surrounding my home. Do you know the name of the Cherokee villages which were below Chenocetah? I have been told the names were Nancy Town and Dick's Town, located on the east and west sides, respectively. I have never found any mention of any name closely resembling those. (There is a Duck Town, but not real close to here.) I look forward to hearing from you. Wa-do!

Extremely interesting -- born & reared in NW GA (Lindale near Rome) and your research / explanation of the Cherokee placenames is very readable. Happened on your site while trying to get additional information on Doublehead Gap and Chief Doublehead. Found that a "Moses Melton" (trying to determine if he was in my Melton lineage) was a trader who befriended and married into Chief Doublehead's clan.
I currently live in Fayetteville, but have property on Blue Ridge Lake and am intimately familiar with most all of the places mentioned in your series. Have always wondered about Noontootla Creek and wish you much success in you quest to solve these linguistic riddles.
Best regards, Terry Melton
